Entertainers have a way cementing themselves into our lives. Making works of art that leave a lasting impression. Helping us to make memories or forget life for a little while. Perhaps giving inspiration to a lost soul. Their mark is made on this world by creating. Lending us reminders that range from childhood, to how our first kiss felt, and everywhere in between.
A celebrity death can be equated to losing a family member for some. For others it simply makes no difference. Personally speaking, I tend to fall somewhere in the middle. Not fully grieving but sad for the loss of life and talent. What starts to nudge me over to the more upset side is when I think of how my children won’t “get to know” the figures that attached themselves to different parts of my memory bank. Ultimately, how a public figure ties into your life is all your own and where you land on the spectrum of grief is your business. Whether you’re curled up in a ball still mourning David Bowie or watching re-runs of Everybody Loves Raymond know that the people you grew to love will forever be available to indulge in.
Even though its only April, 2016 has been like a weird celebrity death movie, taking many “greats”. In light of that I created a list. This is not a complete list for sure. Anyone I have missed feel free to enter them in the comments. Enter your favorites or the ones you were most shocked to lose. I was most surprised about Prince and I must admit my heart hurts a little bit. I always pictured him being 90, in full make-up, singing Purple Rain.
